To briefly start, over the course of several months I had several course learning objectives, and even though I was unsuccessful in completing them it is close to impossible to be able to achieve them in the time I had, I was able to achieve certain learning objectives.
Acknowledge your and others’ range of linguistic differences as resources, and draw on those resources to develop rhetorical sensibility was one of the objectives I was able to complete with my first essay named “An Interview with John Smith” in which we went over cultural differences while he exchanged the struggles his family faced along with other Turkic groups face in Europe, to quote one of my essays, “Another useful piece of info John provided is that even though immigrants in the US face a considerable amount of discrimination,…the Turkish minority that live in Germany are discriminated against heavily with Germans being very nonchalant about how much they despise the Turkish minority living in Germany.” During the interview “John Smith” also exchanged info on the development of Azerbaijani language since during the USSR, Azerbaijan used Cyrillic letters to represent their language, but the Azerbaijani people that resides in Iran stuck with their original lettering.
When it came to enhancing strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment, I still have problems of not being able to fix up my drafts in which I do not go over them properly along with having some of my friends/peers review my writing. It is still a course objective I still must work on.
For negotiating my own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of genre, medium, and rhetorical situation, I did not feel like I had to work on this outcome since I am able to convey to the audience with clarity of what my writing goals are with my essays having a direct message that does not require further insight to understand.
For developing and engaging in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes I did work on this objective a lot indirectly from my first two essays with having to interview a friend of mine for my essay titled “An Interview with John Smith” and the second paper which required me to interact and engage with the music community on twitter to jot be able to jot down the hierarchies and how people interact with each other in my other paper “The Music Community on Twitter”.
For engaging in genre analysis and multimodal composing to explore effective writing across disciplinary contexts and beyond, I just have not explored any other forms of writing that much when writing up my papers.
When it came to trying to formulate and articulate stance through and in my writing, I was able to achieve this learning outcome when writing my third essay “The harmful effects and manipulation of Holistic Medicine from Christian Science” in which I made a formed an argument that the Church of Christian Science was a fraudulent organization that result and several children dying as I quote from the essay about a child who’s life was taken because of Christian Science, “Ian Lundman who died of diabetes due to his mom and stepdad being part of Christian Science who, were against medical care for their child, so a practitioner was hired to heal the child for 446$ over two days.” Not only that but the organization is also responsible for the creation of religious exemption from vaccinations which people still receive today. I also mentioned why organizations such as the Church of Christian Science are successful from a social psychological perspective brought up Thomas Gilovich’s book How We Know What Isn’t So, where Gilovich explains that one of the reasons is due to how the practitioners direct the unsuccessfulness of their procedures on the patient not having “that much faith.”
For practice using various library resources, online databases, and the Internet to locate sources appropriate to your writing projects, I was able to achieve this learning outcome in my second essay “The Music Community on Twitter”, where I had to search the internet and twitter to support my claims, so I looked through the most popular music twitter accounts and tweets and cited them in my papers such as how people interact with each other for example, how people like to share to others what music they listened to throughout the week for example I mentioned in my second essay about this account who I follow that shares what they have listened to. Along with that I mentioned how the community also has a bunch of inside jokes that people tell one another, but it does not take too long to understand the jokes the people say in the community. I also have mentioned certain incidents such as when the top figure in the community got his divorce papers leaked because he gave an artist a negative review and I was able to find all the information backing my claims through tweets and articles.
For the last course objective which was to strengthen my source use practices (including evaluating, integrating, quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing, synthesizing, analyzing, and citing sources), I managed to find better sources towards my third paper on the fraudulent Church of Christian Science by using government resources, a social psychology book, and sources from a woman who lost her child due the church’s negligence towards trying to heal the child so she created an organization against the Church of Christian Science and find many stories about children who were harmed due the church’s practices.
I was able to fully complete three of the course learning outcomes but through me completing those outcomes they were able to spill over and indirectly fulfill a decent portion of the other objectives, but after looking over the other objectives I have realized there more to learning and practicing on my part to succeed in finishing the other objectives, more specifically having the revise and fix my drafts to be able to say my points with better clarity.
